Llama Department - Welcome!
We are happy to have you visit us - both on the web and at the Fair.
We volunteer each year to help children and adults show their llamas. Everyone loves to see the animlas, especially whem they are all dressed up for the costume parade! Visiting the animal barns is fun and educational.
Please feel free to take a look below at the categories we generally have to show. When at the Fair, you will find us lower-fairgrounds, in the Llama Barn.
If you are considering showing your llamas with us, to be sure your entry goes smoothly, please read the our Entry Information below for categories and entry rules. Then check out the deadlines to understand which deadlines will apply to your entries. Entry Form

RULES
There will be no more than six llamas per farm unit and there is a three stall limit. However, there will be a 2 llama per stall assignment. All llamas must be at least 5 months old. All llamas 13 months and older entered in approved classes, with the exception of youth classes, must be registered or have passed screening with the International Llama Registry (ILR) or the Canadian Livestock Record Corporation (CLRC). All llamas 18 months and under that are listed and need to be screened with the ILR do not have to be registered with the ILR. Non-Breeder llamas do not have to be registered or have passed screening with the ILR or CLRC. If Non-Breeders are not registered and wish to be in the ALSA Award System and wish to show in halter, they must show in the adult Non-Breeder halter class. Breeding llamas entered in the 5 months through 12 months age divisions should at least have a copy of application pending. The showing of leased animals will only be allowed for
4-H members and youth under the age of 19 years old. The lease must be in effect from October of the prior year thru the current show season.
ALSA has also made an important change regarding youths showing intact males: "It is recommended that exhibitors 8 years through 12 years of age not show intact males over 24 months of age, with the choice of acceptance or decline lying with show man-agement and stated in their show booklet." This show has determined that we will not allow youths between 8–12 years to show an intact male. Please be aware of this rule when entering your youths. Consult your handbook or online for any further ALSA updates to other rules.

Each entry will receive one ribbon and premium. The handler must have 50% of their outfit made from llama fiber. The outfit may be knitted, woven, felted, locker hooked, crocheted, etc. The more variety of uses with the llama fiber will benefit the entry and the handler does not have to have made the outfit. Each entry must submit to the superintendent a one page commentary by 10:00 p.m. on Thursday. The commentary should include information about the handler, the llama, the outfit and their farm.
