Competitive Exhibits

One of the best ways to enjoy the Durham Fair is by checking out the Competitive Exhibits. This is where fairgoers get to see the talents, hard work and dedication demonstrated by the hundreds and hundreds of kids, teens and adults who enter their exhibits into the fair.

Whether it's the dairy cow proudly raised since birth, the sheep whose wool is knitted into a hat, those scrumptious tomatoes or beautiful flowers that just have to be exhibited, a special photo, art work, craft, homemade pie or jam-the Durham Fair has a spot for all these exhibits and so much more. Fairgoers can easily spend a whole day admiring the skills and talents demonstrated by family, friends and neighbors in the Competitive Exhibits.

The Durham Fair has exhibits in the following departments:

Livestock -   Beef Cattle, Dairy Cattle, Goats, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Swine and Llamas. There is also a special category for Fiber.

Plant Science - Flowers, Fruits, Horticulture, Christmas Tree, Christmas Wreaths and Vegetables.

Personal Skills -  Art , Canning , Baking , Crafts and Collections Needlework and Photography .

Youth Exhibit - Visiting the Youth Exhibits  is a very special part of the Fair. There are several age categories - even a group category. The exhibits include Crafts and Special Interests, Photography, Vegetables and Flowers and Baking and Canning.

Interested in exhibiting your own hard work? Everything you need to know, including downloadable forms to submit you entries by mail- or on-line is on the index at left.  Just browse through the index and click on the "Enter Your... (item)" areas you are interested in.

People's Choice Award
In some departments a People's Choice rosette ribbon is awarded based upon ballots cast by fairgoers.   In the Dairy, Beef, Swine, Sheep, Goat, Llama departments, it will be awarded to the Farming Unit. In Poultry, Rabbits and all other competitive exhibits, it will be awarded to an individual entry.

Each fairgoer may cast one People's Choice ballot for any one entry exhibited in each department on each day of the fair. If the superintendent sees evidence of ballot tampering, suspect ballots will be removed before a final count is made.
