The Durham Fair is pleased to announce the headline entertainers for the 2013 Durham Fair.

Justin Moore:

On Friday, September 27, 2013, Justin Moore will be performing at 7:30pm. Justin has toured with some of the biggest names in country music, including Hank Williams Jr, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton. His headlining shows have sold out in clubs across the country and his loyal fan base continues to grow at a rapid pace. His music resonates strongly with the blue collar, hard working  Americans who break their backs just to earn a buck and never get ahead but wouldn’t have it any other way, to paraphrase the lyric from his #1 hit, “Small Town USA.”

Josh Turner:

On Saturday, September 28, 2013, Josh Turner will be thrilling the crowd. One of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers earning numerous CMA, ACM and GRAMMY nominations since the release of his debut album, Long Black Train, Josh Turner has sold more than five million albums and garnered four No. 1 hits (including three multi-week chart-toppers): "Your Man," "Would You Go With Me," and "Why Don't We Just Dance" (a four-week No. 1 that was named the most-played song of the year in 2010 by MediaBase).

A historical treasure of the Durham Fair certainly are the horse, oxen and pony pulls. These contests are a throwback to our agricultural past. The horse pulls, in particular, have been known to last long into the night with eager fairgoers packing the hill and bleacher areas around the ring until the very end to see which team comes out on top.
*Please note: The Durham Fair makes it a priority to ensure that all animals participating in competitions are treated in a humane and respectful manner.

Connecticut Wine Festival at the Durham Fair

The Durham Fair will be hosting the Connecticut Wine Festival on the town green during three days of the Durham Fair, September 27-29, 2013. Fair goers of legal age will be able to sample wines featuring Connecticut grown grapes from seven of our Connecticut wineries. The participating wineries are Bishop’s Orchards Winery, Gouveia Vineyards, Hopkins Vineyard, Jonathan Edwards Winery, Jones Winery, Priam Vineyards, Sunset Meadow Vineyards. The wineries attending are among the best in the state as evidenced by Connecticut Magazine article naming Jones Winery and Sunset Meadow Vineyards as “Best of CT.”

The Wine Festival will be open on Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 8pm and on Sunday from 12pm to 6pm. There is an additional charge for this sampling festival. On Friday, the cost is $12 and on Saturday and Sunday, the cost is $15. Guests will have an opportunity to sample 28 different wines, offering a variety of wine styles. There will also be wine education classes conducted by the Wine Institute of New England on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. In addition, there will be a wine store where the local wines can be purchased, to be picked up once the guest leaves the Fairgrounds.

To complement the Wine Festival, we will have entertainment from our Green Stage and Cabot Cheese sampling. According to Daniel Miramant, President of the Durham Fair Association, “This festival is consistent with our focus on education in agriculture this year and we are proud to be hosting one of two State sponsored Wine Festivals at our Fair this year.”

A valued educational area of the Fair that serves up topical seminars on foods, farming, home and garden care and more. There are also interactive displays and demonstrations by experienced, knowledgeable experts in their respective fields of service.

Step inside the Durham Fair Farm Museum and amid our vast collection of antique farm equipment and collectibles you will be transported back to a time of hand-cranked tractors, blacksmiths, and pot-bellied stoves. Our collection is priceless—we hope you will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed presenting it to you.

This area of the fairgrounds is designed specifically with our younger fairgoers in mind. From pie-eating contests and balloon stomp competitions to bubble stations and music shows on the stage, this is certainly a place that your kids will love!

Whether your taste is the slow, steady pace of the carousal, the fast flipping of the Zipper or somewhere in between, our Midway has it all and will surely bring smiles and squeals of delight from both young and old riders alike.

Engines roar, cars collide, and dust fills the air! All of these sights and sounds can be enjoyed in the Motorized Events Ring where a Demolition Derby, Truck/SVU Pull, Tractor Pull and more keep the bleachers bursting with wide-eyed spectators to these rip-roaring events.
